Freelance Google Ads Specialist @ JC Digital Marketing

Jos started his PPC career at an agency doing lead gen for the car industry, then spent five years in-house. He went freelance in March 2024 without a single client, and now only does Google Ads for lead gen. He'd been a member of The PPC Hub for about nine months when we recorded this.

What you'll learn

  • Plant seeds, then be patientA LinkedIn message that never got a reply can turn into a client 8 months or a year later. Jos doesn't expect a client from one post. He posts so people know exactly who to go to when they need him.
  • Specialize in stepsHe started out selling everything, including SEO, to pay the bills. In September he went Google Ads only, and in November lead gen only. Soon after, a former boss from 2017 sent him a client because his LinkedIn posts said he only does lead gen.
  • Work on your network before you need itIn his first summer he invoiced about €300 in two months. Cold messages to agencies didn't work because he had no relationship with them. Not working on his network during five years in-house is the mistake he'd fix first.
  • Make it easy to book a callHe replies to people looking for a freelancer on Dutch freelance platforms, and always adds a Calendly link to the first message. People often book straight away, and he closes about 60–70% of those calls. Two clients came from the jobs section in The PPC Hub.
  • Talk through your auditsHe starts a Microsoft Teams meeting with himself, turns on transcription and talks through the account campaign by campaign. Half an hour later he has a full audit, which ChatGPT turns into a write-up for the client. Client emails work the same way from his phone.

About this episode

Jos Cobussen quit his in-house job in March 2024 without a single client.

Not even his old employer. And with a wedding and a baby on the way.

It took him six months to earn his old salary back, and the summer in between was rough: about €300 invoiced in two months.

Then he narrowed his offer. First to Google Ads only, then to lead gen only. A few months later, his old boss sent him a client because of it.

In this episode, we go through:

  • Why he specialized in steps, and why he picked lead gen
  • Where his clients actually come from (warm leads, referrals and The PPC Hub)
  • The clients who never paid, and the red flags he missed
  • Why he says not to spend hours on your website
  • His speech-to-text trick for audits and client emails

His career tip is one I agree with: you learn the most when you step out of your comfort zone. Going freelance was his biggest step yet, and he wouldn’t go back.

00:00an old bus from me like in 2017 came back to me on LinkedIn saying hey I'm looking for someone I cannot help him myself because I'm too busy and because I see in your LinkedIn post that you focus only on Le Jen I would happy to introduce this client to you and yeah this was pretty pretty badass all right welcome back to the PBC Mastery podcast today I am joined by one of uh a new special guest one of the members of the PPC Hub uh Jos Cobussen welcome to the the PBC Mastery podcast um I think you've been in the PPC Hub for maybe nine eight nine months or so right now and um it's been awesome seeing you grow um today I want to dive all in your all into your story of going from working in-house to happily freelancing right now um but before we do that Jos uh and before we uh yeah give you the opportunity to introduce yourself um what is if you had to give upand cominging PPC experts one Golden Nugget tip to drive results what would that be thank you miles uh my golden nuget would be uh everything you do counts the little things that you don't think that will count that will lead you to clients will give in the end for some funny reason a client one day for example you have a LinkedIn message that never you get a response to and then like a year later or or eight months later they come back to you because you planted the seat in their mind somewhere and they think ah this is the guy I got to get this is

01:37my golden nugget and it for some reason it happens every time and uh yeah that's a good one man so actually so going on the LinkedIn uh thing yeah I think sometimes people they think I want to start posting on LinkedIn I want to start attracting clients and then they post and they expect immediate return like okay now I'm going to get a client because I wrote a really good piece um but if you're saying now like All the Small Things count yeah have you seen that um as you do that as you do those things um you start to get those clients over time they come they come back to you yeah is that what you're saying yeah yeah yeah that's exactly what I'm saying um like it it's really small things that can lead you to clients and I am yeah I don't want to rule things out because there's strategies different strategies that work for everybody um but me I'm always I have the mindset of planting seeds and some of them they probably don't come out and but there's always uh some that come out and uh it's often the little messages that you have or a chat and there's a lot of things that actually happen on LinkedIn indeed um but no the dream that you post something on LinkedIn and then think that you have a client forget it it's not going to happen but you it's a mindset that I strongly believe in is that just stay on top of mind you don't have to post every day but you want to become the person that if they need you one day or your service that they know exactly who to go to with that mindset I think yeah I think that's already a good step yeah yeah man I love that so okay let's take

03:15a step back because I think we can go really nitty-gritty from here already uh let's take a step back Jos um could you maybe briefly introduce yourself and where you are now in your career as a Google ad specialist so yeah as you already said I'm a freelancer um yeah freelancing is for me a bit of the dream that comes true um I already knew it for many times I'm now yeah for a long time now I am 31 years old and I knew from 14 years old I was always looking for like side hustles things aside how to make myself my own money and not like working for someone else and then yeah it's I think it's a I think it's a mindset that I already always had um NE nevertheless I find it super good that I actually went through the whole that I've seen everything so when I started with with n PPC um I started on the agency side uh starting with my own uh portfolio of clients uh and then later on I worked for five years inh house and um yeah there's some pros and cons on both ways but nevertheless I'm super happy that I went through both of them um because for just a small example when I was working inhouse for a travel agency uh we hired an agency for us to do the PPC and it was not because I was not capable it was just a time management thing and um yeah you know exactly what to look for you know how to think you know how they think because before that I was on the agency side so

04:53yeah it both sides really help uh helps me understanding the client what they want and uh yeah yes yeah that's that's that's definitely uh always good to have those those different perspectives from both sides um so you you are freelancing now when did when did you start freelancing March uh 2024 so that's now almost one year nice um I asked quite some people um like how long does it take uh to really take off to get your first clients to have like uh yeah good Mr so monthly recurring Revenue this is how I counted at least in my mind uh My Success um you hear numbers that says one year maybe one and a half year it really depends the situation um for my for me it took six months um to get my old net salary back per month so yeah you have to be careful with that because it's nice but the moment you lose a client again yeah it's you're you're yeah you can go both ways of course so so for me it took like 6 months so it takes us to uh September last September yeah and uh I don't know what happened but half of January so like two weeks ago like budgets opened up everybody wanted to start their new projects and it's like wow I doubled my portfolio again as in hours speaking so uh yeah super happy with that awesome man yeah it's always like uh right after the summer break and after the after after New Year's then everything starts

06:30to come back to life and people start changing agencies or Freelancers yeah exactly uh and what I I it's not it's not even a year that I'm working now as a freelancer but there's there's two periods that has been quite tough especially the summer because I started in March so I had some onetime projects so to say so not recuring clients and um yeah that's not what you're actually aiming for especially in the beginning because you want to have gas flow you need to pay the bills and uh a oneoff project can be cool but it's not really helping you to get your to your goals H and then summer came in and it was like okay yeah over two months I invoiced yeah you don't want to hear it but it's the truth I I over two months I invoiced like 300 EUR so I thought like ah man now I really I need to get clients um but yeah then September came and September came in and BM everything turned around all the pro new projects came in and yeah you know people say it but once you're in there it's very hard to be patient because you simply need to P the bills pay the bills I have an apartment um I'm going to be I go I'm going to get married this year I just got a baby so it's not the most uh cheapest project I would say but uh so yeah there's yeah but I have to say having that it's it helps you a lot with uh keeping the motivation and pressure M it needs a bit of pressure for some

08:07people to toh to do it simply do it yeah yeah yeah for sure so how did you um yeah if you if you're able to invoice 300 in two months I can imagine that is definitely challenging time because you you know have to take care of your family as well um how did you as you mentioned you have to stay patient in that sense how yeah what did you do in that period how did you stay patient and what did you do to maybe solve it in the uh in in the the months that followed yeah there is a strategy that I had over summer is that uh the thinking that agencies need in summer maybe extra help because people go on holidays it didn't work and it was not because my strategy was wrong it was just everything was too fresh I was contacting people I never had a relationship with so so it also takes me to the big issue and the error that I made over the last couple of years is that I didn't work on my network and is also one big advice that I give everybody out there network is crazy important um and it doesn't matter if it's like a fresh Network or an old network network is network and today I'm also having like people um like I'm contacting from 2017 uh and we're having good conversations again because we find ourselves like in the same yeah in the same boat so to say yeah but summer was yeah summer was tough yeah yeah absolutely so what are you doing then um uh you know as you said after summer

09:46September everything started to started to pick up but I think there were actually a few key things that you did during the summer um that probably led to you getting more uh more leads yeah um I remember that um we spoke about in in bpc Hub and and in our our Meetup as well you made the the change to your specialization or you started to specialize in Leen could you talk about that trans that change that you made on why why did you decide to start specializing and what did that do for you in terms of lead generation yeah um before I answer that I did it in two steps so first of all when I really started in March I did like the big approach every client online Market SEO sea I don't give a cash flow and it's not because I don't like SEO it's just simply uh I know it and I I also know how to do it it's just I'm not a specialist in it but of course you're not going to sell no if you have a potential client and yeah you need to pay the bills this is this is the truth it simply happens and yeah it's reality we have to accept um not everybody does it some people we go to straight into specialization but we are all not almost not everybody's in this luxurious position so step two was indeed as you as you mentioned in September I I made the switch to uh Google Ads only um so I I'm not doing anything else anymore sometimes very small clients I would like to I'm helping them like

11:24under the the the the big picture like the very small clients so I'm also doing some meta advertisement um and then in November I I switched my full Focus to lingen and um this really made a change and I Al I already shared it with you miles uh there was a happy moment for me that an old bus from me like in you focus only on Leen uh I would happy to introduce this client to you and yeah this was pretty pretty badass to see really people like recognizing you and coming back to planting seeds post on LinkedIn yeah it helps because people see it yeah yeah yeah and why did you choose to go for a legion and instead of maybe eom or whatever could have been anything yeah it's a bit where I started when I was working on at my at the ages see at the very beginning of my career it was 100% leg gen and also only in one industry like in the car industry this agency did only that and uh I never really had shopping um yeah experience having said that I put lots of energy over last summer to get to know that because I have shopping clients and I don't want to and and I also like to help them but the real question is why why do I choose Leen it's because I had to make a choice uh for

13:04myself and uh Leen it's just simply I have more experienced in it I know how to handle it um of course every business is different B2B BC um it's more my comfort zone even though I'm someone who likes to go out of my comfort zone when it comes to that making a good choice I yeah I choose for I chose for the comfort zone yeah yeah yeah and it's probably smart because you um sometimes comfort zone can be uh interpreted as negative yeah as if you're not trying but I think here it's super smart you just maybe it's not even comfort zone it's like yeah I know I'm good at this and I can monetize that and uh and it's showing in how you're how you're developing yourself now yeah there's also one little thingy that I had in the past so much so much issues with the merchant center because everything was like that I was like oh man no man it's like pain sometimes such a pain that I think like oh man no and with leg it's a bit less yeah it's much more straightforward definitely yeah 100% hey guys real quick if you like this episode don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss anything in the future and feel free to share with a friend colleague or family member CU that's the only way we can grow the show all right back to the show um so um you specialized in in just going Google Ads for Legion clients um yeah I I remember you told me you were so happy when you got the the in your inbox people saying that they found you especially because you have that in your LinkedIn title as well like Google ad for Legion or something along those lines um what are

14:43you doing now with this new positioning in terms of your your marketing so what are you doing to attract new dream clients so to speak that actually fit in the description of what you specialize in and what you like to work with yeah uh first of all it's much easier in your mind to communicate one way instead of like uh well what we do often is Freelancers not not necessar Freelancers but as Specialists we like to give information on LinkedIn I think eight out of 10 posts is all about information we are sharing some knowledge tips tricks Etc and if you have to switch all the time between e-commerce and Leen it's like what am I going to share this time and there's no consistency um first of all for your audience I don't think it's the best approach because they don't know how to identify you um yeah and and and also for yourself in your planning it's much yeah it's easier to to to stay focus yeah it's all about Focus I find yeah and there very small clients they don't give honestly they don't give a um but if you really if your approach is bigger clients bigger budgets they know what they looking for um it's a for example uh a big company spend 20K EUR a day per day um yeah they know exactly what they looking for they're not going to waste their time on someone who is focused on uh e-commerce because they need someone for Legion and yeah yeah you can you can

16:21simply ask more money because you're more specialist yeah so yeah for sure I I having said that I must say I still have have some e-commerce clients MH um and again coming back I it's not that I don't like it it's just I'm not selling it proactively anymore yeah yeah yeah that's fair enough and since since you made that switch have you found have you seen you already mentioned like uh your old boss giving your the this this this client uh but have you also seen from more leadar you're getting that you are actually attracting more lean clients by actively uh yeah positioning yourself that way um it's a bit hard to say because today um it's still pretty fresh we only talking here about three months strategy in um and and yeah most of the new projects that I got recently Are all uh are almost all outsourced so they know already who yeah most of it it's all Leg gen yes but no I haven't felt like oh so much more LinkedIn uh worm leads inbound leads coming to me because of that no right and uh in the beginning you are you also spoke a bit about about LinkedIn um have you have you been actively posting on on LinkedIn trying to attract more clients yeah but I've learned one thing is that you have to do it you need to have a plan because just posting everybody yeah sorry for the most out of you there but

17:58and I'm also guil to it sometimes but if I look at my if I look at the Led post it's like there's so much the same things out there um and there are just a couple like the top of the iceberg of people who are really sharing some good information and right it's easy to pick those couple of good people out of it and um you also understand like oh yeah I get it why you seem at least successful I don't know your portfolio but it seems successfully U compared to the people are just sharing some post I'm also a bit guilty of that sometimes but um no I could do more but honestly um it's a diff it's an approach that we can all take you also have to be happy simply with what you have I find yeah and of course more clients is also nice but can you can you onboard them do you have time for the intake it's a lot of things to process especially as a freelancer you have to think about those things especially in your first year can you take all those clients at the same time on in the beginning of course yes you you say yeserday yeserday and tomorrow it's done at some point you cannot always do that anymore you your agenda is getting Fuller and Fuller yeah yeah and um what are your what are your currently your your biggest challenges you face as a as a freelancer because the the lead the before like it was much more of an issue of um making sure that you could replace your full-time income yeah now that you have done that is there anything else like that you're currently struggling with yeah well currently not so much

19:36anymore I had a bit of uh yeah yeah like such a good feeling two exactly two weeks ago two weeks ago as I mentioned so many new projects uh it was such a good feeling and I was like ah right now I can I can build my buffer I can yeah financially more freedom working much harder I am not saying the I'm not saying only the positive things yeah you also have to work like you have to do you have to do it in the end so yeah um but the thing I'm mostly working on right now is to get my agenda done prioritizing prioritizing and also thinking about what are my next steps because now after 10 months I feel financially very good and protected in some way yeah uh what will the next Focus um as I already as I just mentioned um lots of it that came recently to me is outsourced and it's nice they do the acquisition for you um but you're not building on your real own portfolio and it's nice for the cash flow especially in the beginning it was all that I wished for in the beginning give me those clients because it's my man it's yeah it's it's great but there also comes a point that you cannot Outsource those client to another freelance at some point so you are a bit stuck when it comes to scaling your business as long as you don't have your own clients at least yeah maybe some people are more creative than I am um yeah if it's already outsourced to me I'm not going

21:16to Outsource it to someone else first of all we are having issues with ndas non-disclosure agreements Etc it's like yeah no it's not going to happen so yeah you you have a bit of a ceiling of what you can handle yeah so I'm going to think about like okay how can I handle my own clients how can I get more in the end and therefore you can skill your business because you can Outsource those things yeah yeah it makes sense and I think in the beginning it's fine like or at all stages everyone loves different types of clients you know some people only want to do white label work because they say like no I I don't want to do the acquisition I don't want to talk to clients let me just do Google Ads um so everyone for everyone that's different but I think yeah in the beginning uh if you're much more focused on getting your finances in order yeah that makes sense if you're getting clients that may not be dream clients but a lot of people always think like I don't want to do the acquisition but acquisition that you have this on so many levels I think the people who say that they have some sales ver in front of them they pushing you like here take my services and and no it's really not the case um here are some small G golden nuggets there are some great websites where you can find warm leads because people say like I I'm looking for a freelancer so you respond on them if the best tip and yeah okay yeah good tip again always add a kendly link when you send the first message people don't like to say like okay but what time can you uh can you then do it no it's like people um they don't even respond to me it's like hey thank you for your response no they just

22:54booked straight away a meeting without even saying something so yeah that that helped a lot and um I think my closing rate would be depending the client depending the industry would be somewhere around 60 to 70% depending oh that's nice that's really good man yeah it also depends on where the the client came from you know that's why I'm so such a fan of inbound of LinkedIn because you're sharing so much up front and at some point the the clients are actually pitching you that they want you to work for them instead of the other way around best you can increase your rates yeah you know all those little things that count and um I got two clients from the PPC Hub uh from I'm not sure if there's so many people active on this section but you have the collaboration and uh the collaboration jobs and trade section and I got two two clients out of it yeah that's that's that's awesome man that's also one of the reasons why we have the PPC Hub obviously like yeah you know the the content that's in there the courses Etc um but since we had that channel um I realized that people are actually tra uh uh sharing leads with each other yeah as a freelancer you're often often times fully booked uh and now people are just passing those on to each other which I think is the the best thing ever because then yeah you you help each other on a on a on a really impactful level apart from like the knowledge and everything um and then you also have like immediate Roi on on joining so yeah exactly that was awesome

24:32it's it's you have to think about that it's very hard in the beginning when you freelance I had I had I think half a year salary on my bank account okay yeah yeah um and I think the most people they make the mistake thinking that okay let's say yeah just quick calculation let's say you have 15,000 in the bank you used yeah you spent 3,000 a month I know it's bit much but okay it will take you five months ahead but that's really not true because you simply start spending less um it's not that you don't have clients it's just you have less income because there will be some clients um so it's this is not the calculation you have to make like oh it only Tak me five months that's not the case U I think from in my trajectory uh there has been only two months that I earned less than what I uh yeah so my balance was negative in the end of the month yeah yeah yeah yeah all the rest was like or equal and or from September it was positive yeah that's that's great man and uh you you mentioned that networking was important to you um is that also one of the reasons why you joined the PPC Hub yeah no my my initial reason was um uh was because of the knowledge the courses I followed you uh or LinkedIn um yeah when you follow when you follow people in the PPC you you easily get to you or or or Adrian and you know it's it's all the same group go

26:11goes pretty quickly um so I followed it and yeah at the beginning with some money on the bank you think wow okay it's yeah you know it's quite an investment uh should I do it and there's been two pivot Points for me um I two clients that really had the impression that my knowledge was not up to date and that hurts especially when you need clients that really hurts and um that was no h you you came with a nice deal over the summer so I I hopped in and uh I hopped on and uh yeah uh I well I think I did the pmax in 24 hours course uh speedrun yeah I I did it all over the summer and then I became a bit more inactive uh but I really needed those courses because you can easily say oh I can find everything on YouTube but that's really not true because on YouTube It's So Different it's not structured uh you have to look for what you want but if you don't know your issue you don't know what to look for let's say um and uh so yeah it came actually from a from a point that I was heard that I didn't got those clients especially in need that I hopped on and I think no I got to do something about need to invest in myself and to take one step back it came from the fact that I worked five year five years in house and not being uh yeah not Hands-On in the Google Ads accounts uh yeah it's it's not if you want to be if you want to be the position or Freelancers as a

27:47Google ad specialist it doesn't help you a lot right yeah and uh what did it do then for you and and for your your skill set your belief in your abilities to results after you joined yeah knowing how to sell because you know what you talk about and just a step further if I talk about e-commerce and um let's say today this morning I didn't audit this morning I didn't audit um most of the things that I propose for my client on boarding process 90% of the knowledge comes from those courses um Performance Based marketing uh those type of things also things that I haven't tested yet yet last week I tested I I I proposed something and I said to this person I haven't tested yet but it is on my mind so people also like that this mindset it's about the Fire and Ice strategy right um so yeah really and um yeah um self uh yeah not conscious this uh another word confidence confidence thank you self-confidence it really yeah if you know what you're selling it really helps yeah people it people feel it and they take you on board yeah and also for you like here and it's awesome to hear this by the way um uh if you H you can just share with this client like I have this idea I haven't tested it yet but I think it might work yeah that's also showing to the client that you're you know you're willing to be honest first of all you're not bluffing and saying like you're taking our results and saying yeah I've done this 10 times and I can do this for you as well no you're being honest and in being honest

29:25they see that you're also willing to experiment is obviously important um so yeah I think that's definitely a good point here is to just in those conversations with clients always just just be honest and show that you're willing to to advertise willing to experiment and that you don't know everything because you you can't know everything you know know exactly sorry but you I don't I'm not sure if you want to know everything but it's it's maybe something else but um there's I find on the Hub there's bit for me it's a bit of a mix it's like LinkedIn and the Hub um there's so much um yeah so much uh inspiration and knowledge being shared that are always for one client in your portfolio can be helpful we are getting stuck at some accounts uh I I got some clients that sometimes yeah you know it doesn't happen and it's not about you it's just or maybe this client needs to have more meta advertisement or LinkedIn advertising and I'm also stepping away from that person that does that all okay and um I think it's not it's good to know and to understand where your limits are and uh if for example The Hub helped me a lot with understanding surface side tagging uh the whole tracking everything am I doing it on a daily basis no I but I find it still very I have to know what I sell and maybe a friend of my is doing in the end the tracking and it's not because I don't like to he is better at

31:02it and I have more time for the things that I really know my stuff yeah and plus then by still knowing how it works you can debug it if it's breaking um or you can see if he's actually done a a correct job or you can easily pitch it to your clients yeah exctly that's super important the the last story I got yeah was pretty uh inspired by was about Bob with the Cent that did everything to keep him so yeah there's I find there's a lot of inspiration on the Hub itself yes yeah nice yeah awesome man so for people who are thinking about freelancing same as you maybe they're working in-house now working at agency and they think ah maybe this this freelancing thing might be for me what would you say to them do you have any tips recommendations uh yeah yeah okay um don't spend hours on your website okay I there there's two things that really sorry to say but it doesn't have any impact at all especially not in the beginning your website sorry I agree doesn't do anything you are better to update your LinkedIn but like add everything you can and um you really see a difference between a good profile and and and not so good profile and also don't buy 500 business cards because after five years they are dusting away and you still have four 490 of them in your closet LinkedIn is important yeah yeah yeah LinkedIn is important and be active on websites especially when you don't have any hot leads go to like yeah okay I use the Dutch versions so freelance NL

32:43uh um there's also platforms I really I'm not on upwork and fer um no no that's not my my my no it's not my it's a lower qual lower quality it's a lower cost lower quality worldwide uh platforms it can be helpful for example if you need someone who does your logo great but not more than that um so yeah um anything else yeah it's it's a good one actually because you want to zoom in on you see mentioned freelancer.com uh I guess where people can just fill out a um uh application that they're they need for example Google ad specialist and sometimes I think that these platforms get a bit of a bad rep as if the quality is always low but actually this week I was talking to Bob and you mentioned that his uh his story that he um that we also shared in the BBC Edge recently yeah he had um had a client and that he's been with this client for eight years which is insane um which is because he was always looking Beyond Google Ads looking how can I really help this client um and they grew like in eight years from 200k to 14 plus Mill in Revenue um and he got this client firstly with uh on freelancer yeah and now he's been with his client at the time it was like super small um small business but now as over time it grew and grew and grew because I think the founder was just always super ambitious um so there's definitely like super great projects to be found on

34:19those platforms and it's actually a good one that you mentioned it yeah know those platforms are very good to start really if you don't have anything um the situ sitation I was hoping to be in from the start which I was not was to keep my old employee as my first client this is what you hear very often yeah if you have this Lu serious for one day you know not not too much because you also want to get your own projects Etc yeah you also hear quite often like oh yeah my I became a freelancer but I'm still working full-time for my old employee yeah you just work under a different uh structure but you still do the same thing is just yeah if you want that then great but yeah for me that's not the thing um yeah yeah yeah solid man any other tips for people who have the have the ambition to to start freelancing or maybe some things to look out for yeah red FL liance um I have been especially in summer as I mentioned was a tough time for me um a client for a couple of thousand Euros they uh yeah never paid yeah there's a big story about this person I'm not going to mention his name of course but uh it's a professional cor artist that ex that knows exactly what he does um yeah I yeah that was a big red and if I think back I yeah there were already some red flags never responded to the email and then suddenly became an issue and why didn't you do that and and I had one or two other they that was my own real bad experience and

35:59I'm also starting to feel now better and better the red flag lons not because they are poor at not paying their bills or whatever but simply the product is poor and or the prices are way too high or incorrect um you're getting better and better at feeling this at some point and um I yeah now I'm also coming to a point say no I'm not going to do it it's first fix that then I can help you yeah for sure those C learn this with experience yeah you learn this with experience and those clients yeah you feel it you start and it it just doesn't take off and um it's not fun for you you feel a bit guilty somewhere towards yeah I think it's happen I think it's normal you feel a bit guilty and after three four months you think like yeah oh yeah you're not doing anything you're not getting me results and yeah it's not a fun place to be no yeah yeah and I think this uh this is I see this as learning money especially in in the beginning I Al also had clients that just wouldn't pay uh I think the biggest uh bill that was still open and unpaid a long time ago was like 7K or so a client was still yeah serious money that he owed me um but then as you also said like looking back if you look back you also see like oh there were already red flags in this journey but because probably in the intake afterwards uh slow responses and then when it's you know performance is down for one day they jump on it they call you like five times yeah um and I think um this this yeah it's important you only learn it through through experiencing it by going through it and

37:36then next time you are much more um cautious and if some if you send the first invoice and they don't pay and they keep ghosting you they you're much more likely to just say okay I'm not going to work for you anymore until you pay the invoice yeah and then either they don't pay at all and you leave or they pay and then you have a new Baseline um but yeah I think yeah you can talk to people all about those red flags yeah which is important but you also have to just go through it yeah you have to go through it I think it's normal everybody will have it Al everybody will say they had one after a couple of years working on their own um yeah this this happens for me in my case it was 2 and a half K but as you can imagine I just said uh in one summer in two months I earned 300 EUR and you're waiting for this money it hurts a lot need to pay pay the rent or theage it really hurts so yeah yeah and um oh yeah just uh I just also wanted to um share is that um at some point as a freelancer uh yeah you come simply a bit like at your Max and you have to increase your productivity and productivity is very important and there's one thing I have a custom GPT it's the most easiest G productive GPT that I have I happy to share it but it's so super simple it's my Speech to Text uh transcription and I win so crazy much time with uh my all my emails to my clients is all my phone takes me two minutes I know exactly what to say and uh in the end I have a great have a

39:14great email when I'm waiting outside no matter where CH GPT has the history at night I'm on my laptop and I send the email and uh this is a big big time save I all everything everything that is like more than 50 words transcription um yeah meetings the same thing uh for example big productivity Gainer for me is I have Microsoft teams I go on a meeting with myself it's very fun h i put on transcrip I put transcription on I do an audit of my client so I talk in my S to the PC um and I go through the account okay uh campaign number one this campaign number two this and then in half an hour I did a full audit I have the transcription I formul it with ch gpg and I have it all for my client yeah this is such a time saer especially as a freelancer when you need to be very careful with your time and um also another tip is don't take on too many clients at the same time it takes lots of time yeah and uh intake all those things you will find it out yourself but it comes back to also like what tools you are working with I work a lot with notion notion you can for free you can publish and host Pages uh and I'm not working with dashboards not Google ler Studio I make I go into the account I do transcription I see this this this this this the client gets an email the reason I'm

40:51doing that I'm I don't want to automate too many things because I know can today we have to be careful because if I do that I'm afraid that I don't know what's going on in the account anymore fair enough and uh that's for me also reason to go into the account like what is going on to reee it and then when I'm talking to my phone it's like yeah it's like it's like writing things down you know you double remember uh yeah those things are helped me a lot solid man solid yeah if you can share the custom GPT I'll be happy to put it in the description for people to use yeah um the speech the text one um yeah that's that's that's uh definitely a huge time saer so then you just with this text speech you just uh Speech to Text say yeah speech to text no text spe spe text you just say what you want in the email and then it just formats it and then automatically sends it or not or do you just copy paste so just for an example you have my phone I have I am uh putting on the record but in ChatGPT said hey miles today I'm looking at your Google Ads account um I see so there's three accounts uh three sorry three campaigns running campaign one XXX has this issue I'm going to do this this this this um I also see the budgets are not very good aligned or shared so I'm going to do a or b and I would also like to do a test to see if that works because with other clients I saw some good results also maybe try to use some good videos in in your pmax campaigns

42:30because uh you don't have any videos and yeah it's not great for your results up it's going to transcript and I got an email ready for my client this really takes me Max five minutes of course you need to know what you say so you go first in the account and then you're going to look at it but yeah but yeah this is a yeah this is a very it sa helps me save a lot of time and I'm using it every day every day I think even every hour almost yeah wow awesome um okay cool um I think we've touched on a lot of lot of really great things for people who maybe want to start freelancing uh maybe people are already freelancing and and and got some things from this um so my final question is if you had to give PPC experts whether they are experienced or beginners one tip that could improve their career what would that be yeah I find it so cliche but it's really true every time I learned the most no matter it's PPC or whatever I went completely out of my comfort zone I did things that I knew up front I have no experience but I'm going to do it anyway and um I I I didn't went into detail how I came to be a PPC uh freelancer really like my career but there came a point because I did sport studies and I knew from my own side project I had to do something with online marketing and um but nobody's going to give you a job if you don't have experience okay and the online courses yeah you read two pages like out

44:09it's not made for me I need to Hands-On work like an internship or training ship whatever it is or Junior job so I knocked on doors agencies I think 10 or 20 at the time and one accepted it was tough in the beginning um yeah I had really had to prove who I was I made some mistakes but this was one of the best decisions for my career um simply because I went out of my comfort zone and every time I do that it's those moments where I learn the most and this year again this year was a crazy year 2024 because after five years being n having my salary every month I stopped without having one client not even my old employee and having a marriage a wedding day coming up and a child um so and having rent to pay of course your daily life uh yeah it was fully my comfort zone but I've learned crazy a lot over the last year and I wouldn't go back no awesome man yeah so by stepping out of your comfort zone look at where you look at where you are now and I think you have uh you can definely be proud yeah you can definitely be proud of yourself and how you have developed and uh how you can now also like provide for your family Etc I know how important that is yeah I find it very cliche like step by your own but it's really true it's really true and it happens every time and uh I made also some really some big mistakes it's not working on my network for example um it's always things that you realize afterwards like oh I'm a

45:48freelancer now my network oh my God what did I do over the last five years about it like nothing but the good news is also with a bit of energy you can also catch on quickly uh with yeah you can catch on quickly so it shouldn't it shouldn't be a blocking Point love it man okay well AOL thank you so much for for coming on thank you where can people where can people connect with you LinkedIn you can do my website because would be nice to have some some Peak you know in Google in analytics so I can we can jc-digitalmarketing.com okay it's okay here this is a great example again I I KN I was going to freelance and then you comes like oh I need a name initials plus digital marketing and up to today it's still my name and I I I want to change it but I I I many simulations of the name I cannot catch it I I don't know what to do so if someone out of you there has a great name for me please give it to me I like I'm a big fan of Lord of the Rings I live in France I like to dive I'm very outdoorsy so if you come with a cool name uh yeah you're golden I might give you a client or whatever so no no no no I would be cool yeah no those things your name of your company doesn't give doesn't matter it doesn't matter those M mine was also mcir online well well no no inspiration buty it served me well so

47:27it's also one of the things that is just not important at all no no oh one little thingy about LinkedIn about how to connect um like in your back on your iPhone or your phone whatever print print out a little uh QR code of your LinkedIn page and so if people want to connect they only have to scan this little QR code and they straight away in your website on your LinkedIn so this help me quite sometimes because people don't want to waste time like oh here scan it needs to it needs to be smooth and yeah I want I one time I almost lost a client because I had an old phone and I was wanting to show him something I was doing my sales pitch and my phone was not reacting yeah I I went back to iPhone yeah yeah yeah nice one man all right cool hey y thank you so much thank you to everyone uh who's listened thank you so much or or viewed on YouTube don't forget to like subscribe all that good stuff and we'll catch you on the next episode thanks Jos thank you very much bye-bye all right that's the end of this episode of the BBC Mastery podcast I hope you enjoyed it and if you don't want to miss any future episodes we're going to be back next week then don't forget to subscribe and share with a friend family member or a colleague uh cuz that's the only way we can grow this show now there's two more things I want to share with you if you want to take your Google Ads game to the next level the first one is if you want to get advanced Google Ads tips delivered straight into your inbox on Mondays and Fridays head over to PBC mastery.com newsletter to subscribe to our newsletter called the PBC Edge and next to that if you want to really
