What you'll learn
- Make the time difference invisibleIn Bali, Denie worked from 3 or 4 in the afternoon until 11 or 12 at night, so he overlapped 100% with the Dutch workday. Nobody at the agency or his clients had to work around him.
- Stay in one place while you workMoving around makes it hard to build a routine and find good internet and a good desk. He stays in one location and explores on the weekends, and a few months somewhere gives you plenty of them.
- Show your employer a plan, then prove itBefore Bali, he gave the agency a full plan: coworking spaces, internet speeds, accommodation and who he'd travel with. His output and billable hours stayed so high that seven weeks turned into five months.
- Start short and close to homeYou don't need to go far to feel the benefits. Try a short trip, like Amsterdam to Berlin or Barcelona, and check whether you keep a routine, stay productive and get more energy before you go further.
- Think about how far you want to be from homeMissing family and friends is the hardest part. That's why Denie is moving to Portugal: sun and surfing, but a two-and-a-half-hour flight from home and a one-hour time difference.
About this episode
Back in 2021, Denie Geertzen booked a 10-day trip to Lisbon without telling anyone at work.
He wanted to prove to himself, and later to his agency, that you can travel and work without hurting your output. He almost got caught twice (a sunburn on a rainy week in Holland, and Portuguese Google results on a shared screen).
It worked. His next trip was Bali, and today he works as a freelancer from all over the world.
In this episode, we go through:
- How he got his agency on board with working from the other side of the world
- His daily routine with a seven-hour time difference
- What changed when he went full-time freelance
- The hardest parts of the nomad life, like missing family and friends
- His advice if you want to try it yourself
We also talk about what traveling teaches you about other cultures, and how that changes the way you communicate with people.

00:00I was like I'm going to do it I'm just going to book a trip don't tell anybody about this well at least not on work and I'm just going to see for myself how it works I'm going to do all the the diligence and all the homework and I just booked the trip to Lisbon and I was like so liberating like I just booked the trip booked the recommendation I was like let's go for it all right welcome back to the PBC Mastery podcast uh today I am joined by another special guest I have Denie Geertzen in the house um for those of you who don't speak Dutch you probably don't know who I'm talking about but Denie Geertzen something like that then you maybe are familiar with him from LinkedIn um he's a really good Google Ads expert uh specializing in e-commerce um but today I want to talk to him about how he is uh combining Life as a freelancer and traveling all over the world um so Denie first of all welcome welcome to the PBC Mastery uh podcast yeah thanks for having me it's uh it's a pleasure being here especially after after having listened to so many of the first edition of the podcast I was also one of the the few guys who was pushing so much for you guys to record the uh the second season as well so nice to be on this podcast man yeah awesome man so U before we dive all into your into your backstory as a Google ad specialist where you are now in your career Etc I have one quick question and that is what is something that you believe about Google Ads that most people would disagree with ah um the first one to come to mind is definitely the use of broad match it's uh there's so much if you read on
01:37LinkedIn there's so many people who are so against broad match but I've seen some very promising results especially in the accounts where you have a lot of conversion volume ideally campaigns where you have over a 100 conversions I see very promising results so that's something that uh that's definitely an popular opinion it's probably going to trigger a few people but uh yeah I think it's sori yeah sorry not sorry all right man hey um Denie I think the first time we met was at at a event in uh in harm um I don't remember actually which event it was but um Reuben was Reuben was also speaking there search marketing Thursday yeah exactly and um when we met you were working at agency at Traffic Builders but you were already like one foot into freelancing because you I think you had the ambition of uh working remotely which you I think you did during the co uh period a little bit um and I think at that time you told me that you have plans of going full-time freelance so that you can um you know live more of a digital Nomad lifestyle and over the last couple of years that I've followed you I've seen you all across the world in Indonesia Switzerland I think Spain maybe Portugal well all over so um I think that's a very interesting backstory um could you maybe talk a little bit about yeah why did you decide to live this lifestyle of of traveling because as you you told me you're in Indonesia right now right yeah right now yeah so um yeah where it all started for me is that uh even before started working um starting working full-time I already had this passion for traveling I
03:16went to Southeast Asia traveled a lot of countries over there went to South America also before I started working full-time and the moment I started working full-time I thought to myself like okay this is it this is uh where my passion for traveling uh is uh limited heavily because of course yeah you you're working five days a week and you're only limited to I don't know what is it in Holland 25 um holidays and most companies limit handle a limit of a maximum of three weeks in total and if you're really passionate about traveling three weeks won't do it uh so that's the reason why uh I really thought okay this is it this is uh I'm only going to do this once every two years uh you know making a big trip for longer than a month um and yeah so during Corona we I was still working at the Traffic Builders agency and all of a sudden just like the entire world we had to work from our from our own house house and I didn't see my colleagues for six months I didn't see my my clients uh I didn't see anybody I was just working at my kitchen table uh and we in the entire world realized that this works just as easily it works just as well and that's when I started to think like okay but if I am working from my kitchen table can I just work from Berlin or Barcelona or any other place as long as I can preserve my productivity and stuff so yeah things weren't really going well back then um Corona of course R hit really hard emotionally as well you couldn't do anything at all anymore uh
04:54the relationship with my ex-girlfriend didn't go really well either so at the right time the book um the 4our work week came into my life I started reading it uh reading is one of the things I did very often during Corona and I don't know for some reason it came at the very right moment and I was like it I'm gonna do it I'm just gonna book a trip don't tell anybody about this well at least not on work and I'm just gonna see for myself how it works I'm gonna do all the due diligence and all the homework and I just booked the trip to Lisbon um and it was like so liberating like I just booked the trip booked the accommodation I was like let's go for it so the reason why I really wanted to make this work is because if this works I can prove to myself and to the company and to everybody else that there's no compromises that you can actually travel while still doing your work while still building on your career and yeah I went for it I went for uh to to Lisbon for 10 days and uh made sure that you're without telling your colleagues yeah exactly so this is actually also the first time I'm open about this uh so this so this is like a premier um but because this happened halfway in 2021 this is already like expired so nobody can have anything against it anymore they can't see you anymore yeah exactly um now the reason why I still did it even though I didn't talk uh tell the company about it is because I really wanted to make this work it's not like you know I'm trying trying to sneak out of the work I want to be extra productive I want to um go go go all in double down on the output and uh really
06:34make make sure that this is is a working thing that yeah again the traveling and working can go hand inand without compromises and it was a great success there were two occasions that I was Al almost caught one of them was um so I arrived on a Friday and the weather was amazing in Lisbon but yeah I was burned I was sunburned as uh AF and the the next Monday morning I came in the in the scrum meeting with the entire team and somewhere halfway during the meeting someone said yo sorry I got to interrupt the meeting Den what's up man you look like a tomato like holy F now I'm done because it had been raining in Holland for 14 days straight or something like there's no excuse why I was sunburned so I quickly come up with an excuse that my ex-girlfriend uh got me to a sun baiting studio and that uh it wrong went wrong over there so they bought it and one other you thought of that on the spot yeah that was complete freestyling and uh the second occasion was when I was with my colleagues in um in a uh in a video call and I sh shared my screen and I googled something all of a sudden I everybody in the meeting saw that I got Portuguese results in in Google coming up like yo bro why are all your results Portuguese like oh um um VPN is still on so yeah two occasions that's for the rest um I had more energy more motivation creative juices started flowing and uh it was an amazing 10 days I was like I need more of this so yeah
08:14the the next trip after that was Bali but the Bali trip was going to be longer and further away and you have a time difference to take into account so the Bali trip was definitely something that I wanted to uh to discuss with the company so I made a whole plan uh with everything that might be relevant like co-work places internet speed accommodation uh who was where I was traveling with so other guys were also working uh I did all the research and I gave this whole plan to Traffic Builders and uh yeah they were pretty flexible about it and they said you know let's give it a try go there for seven weeks and see how it how it works out wow awesome I think that's uh definitely a big plus for Traffic Builders so shout out to to the team there uh because definitely not all agencies or every employer would give you the the freedom to to do that especially with the the big time zone differences like if you went to Portugal again then they would probably say oh not not an issue because it's maybe one hour time difference or nothing at all but then going to Indonesia seven hours time difference I think that also brings a lot of challenges right so how did you how did you combine client work and traveling uh yeah at the same time being in a different time zone yeah that was definitely also part of the plan because that is a big big hurdle for uh making this Indonesia work um so what I actually made sure of something that I always kept in the back of my head is I tried to minimize the friction as much as possible so so to my colleagues and my clients it wouldn't feel like I am in a different time zone on the other side
09:52of the world that for them it would feel like oh you know D he might as well might as well have been working from home the entire time M so I made sure that I had 100% overlap of all the hours that I normally work in Holland so uh that means that my work day started at 3 in European summertime or at 4 in the European winter time and I worked all the way until 11 o'clock in the evening or 12 in the winter time so nobody would notice a thing there's zero fraction I'm always online I'm always I can always be reached so that was one of the most important uh requirements for me so that also meant finding a work space that is open 24/7 for example right right and how do you then um stay productive because you you started working you say at around 3 4 uh oh yeah 3 34 all the way until the evening and then I guess it's it's pretty nice because then in the morning up until that time it's your time right yeah yeah exactly so how I spent uh spent my days was basically like this I woke up uh first you do your own thing you read you go to a cafe with some coffee uh sometimes when the ways are good you can go out for a surf first and then you're completely energized from all the stuff you can do you know the feeling uh all the all the things you like doing in your free time and then with this big boost of energy you start your workday so I was like okay let's go I did all the things I want to do I woke up for myself and first have you know like some con concentrated time nobody interfering with your free time and um yeah as soon as Holland woke up around two or three in the uh Indonesian time
11:30zone I just started working and I worked all the way until 12 and when you're completely um yeah you've already had your whole day so you're exhausted at the end of the day but you need to unwind first before falling asleep after you know work so I always watch an episode of the office and uh that really worked and the next day the same over again sick dude um and how do you uh when you were in in Indonesia at that time and when you're traveling now are you constantly changing um surroundings or are you more like fixed in one place for a certain time yeah so that's an important one because if you want to do this successfully I think for most people it would work best if you work from one location because it's really hard to find a routine if you keep moving around always uh the uncertainty about the quality of the internet having a good co-work space around having a good uh good office uh chair and a desk and all that stuff so it's I work from all around the world but I always stay in one one one location and if I want to see more of the island or the place that I'm uh spending my time in I uh save that stuff for the weekend like everybody else does in Holland as well so for example I don't know if you go on a weekend trip to groning for example to visit baruan uh you would do that stuff in the weekend right yeah that's usually my it's usually how I spend my weekend yeah all the way every time you go tooning right yeah every time we go to B exactly now you save that stuff for the weekend and if you spend months in uh in a new country in Portugal or
13:09Indonesia you're not only limited to the three weeks that you normally have in a weekend uh in in a trip but if you spend months over there you get like I don't know uh 20 weekends to fill up so there's plenty of time to discover the uh the your area yeah absolutely man absolutely hey guys real quick if you like this episode don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss anything in the future and feel free to share with a friend colleague or family member cuz that's the only way we can grow this show all right back to the show and how did your um your team and your your manager and everyone at at the agency back then how did they react to you being there you know you had your you found your routine you were showing up uh during work times you were available you were there with client calls Etc what were reaction from people yeah so every single time I went came into a meeting everybody was like hey um um you know what's the English word for it holiday goer or and they're like how are you doing over there are you working for a beast Club right now of course all the cliche questions right of course I've never done it a single time working for a be Club because that just doesn't work horrible so the reactions from my manager for example because every once in a while we checked in to see how things are going and uh if still everything goes according to plan and productivity and output and customer satisfaction and stuff uh um yeah she collected all the all the um the opinions from everybody around me like the my colleagues and my clients and everybody that I am in touch with in my in my work and she said yeah everything is going so well everybody sees you're energized and you're creative and your output is
14:47really really high the highest um bitable numbers still so uh we have we have not a single reason to get you back to Holland so this is what you what my manager shout out to her Nina what you literally said is stay as long as you like and it was music to my ears so that seven uh that seven week turned into a FIV Monon trip wow yeah shout out to Nina shout out to Nina yeah for sure man and also ters she uh they were very very supportive and they they they loved hearing all the stories and we really like um this is great stuff for you man enjoy it as much as you can yeah but it just goes to show man if you work hard play hard if you have mentality and I know you're you're a high achiever as well um you always want the best for your clients and um I think you have from what I've seen you have a really high work ethic as well if you can combine that I think a lot of people will just yeah going to Indonesia there's all the distractions you can go surfing it's nice weather um lot of things to do in the area like yeah traveling around with other people because there's a lot of other digital Nomads in there as well I think um yeah by staying focused and and still making sure that you remain billable and and reach the goals of your employer at that time um then yeah they can give you all the freedom you want um and it's also I think a good lesson for managers or agency owners listening to this um that you can give your your people a lot of freedom and I think especially in your case I imagine I can imagine that you started to work even harder because you wanted to prove that this was actually
16:24doable right exactly yeah yeah so so um from then yeah not go ahead yeah that was the main the main goal for me to prove to myself but also to the company like this this works like we need to we need to prove to ourselves that this is a working system without any compromises and that's also the reason why I stick in one place because I really want to make sure that I am as productive as possible for both myself and the company this just has to work it's it there was a burning desire to make this work as as as good as possible mhm yeah if you messed it up then nobody would ever be able to do it again yeah and you would actually ruin it for the rest of the company as well if anybody in the company also had the same desires but I'm the one who was messing up in Indonesia actually working from beach clubs and stuff then there was a pressure on my shoulders and I really felt it I go all in on this and I really want to make this uh this work it it just has to work because if it works and I can combine the The Passion of traveling and working and building your career and then it's just like feeling like you live life without any compromises yeah well now fast forward that was what year was it 2020 or so there was still during Corona B was amazing during Corona there were no people it was basically like a small village and everybody knew each other when you were driving on your scooter you said hi and high and lift left and right and it was just a small village feeling now of course it's just back to M tourism but that was amazing but so yeah it was uh towards the end of Corona right and that was
18:002022 in January or something oh yeah okay so about three years ago and since then now you are uh yeah you started freelancing maybe a couple years ago um how long how long since that trip did it take until for you to go full-time freelance after that trip yes I really think that um my my trip to Bali trigger something because all of a sudden I was surrounded by people who were entrepreneuring online uh working remotely having their own business and their their own hustles uh and I was like I I feel I felt like I need more more of this being away for longer having even more freedom not having to work until 12 it worked back then but it's not perfect right like you adjust and you make the best out of it but working into 12 is kind of exhausting and sometimes it's hard to we them down and even the office uh you know you you need at least two off s of the office to uh to unwind properly before going back to sleep yeah so then um um how how long have you been freelancing now um oh yeah sorry I missed your question um yeah no worries so I started freelancing while I was still working at Traffic Builders also in that sense they're very very flexible another shout out um yeah this is becoming a nice little pitch for for Traffic Builders but they deserve it proper employ employee branding right yeah man for sure yeah no still until this day really grateful because the whole reason why I'm here is partly because they were so flexible back back then um but I've been
19:38freelancing for I think two years now uh first partly uh while work still work for the agency and I think about a year and a half ago I converted to full-time freelancing because I just wanted a bit more of Freedom that I got a taste from uh before that yeah exactly so that you can now you're back in Indonesia now um does your day look different now because you don't have to stick to the window of 4 to 12 uh definitely yeah yeah because um now you can actually leverage the fact that you are awake hours before Holland wakes up where the majority of my clients come from so you have some proper deep work before uh they wake up wake up and you got a few meetings in the first half of the Dutch work day or in my second half of the workday so you do some more meetings and uh very often I I stop working around 8 but of course sometimes you cannot get the meeting to be to happen in the first half of the Dutch work day so every once in a while you get a lost meeting somewhere around 10 o'clock in the evening here but it doesn't really matter like you still got two hours before you fall asleep yeah yeah super nice man so um in that time I think in the last couple of years you've uh traveled to more places uh where have you been next to next to Bali uh so last year I think well I was speaking in terms of uh my move my moves uh I worked from if you don't take Holland seven different countries or something including the Southern Southern neighbors Belgium for two weeks but also South Africa Singapore Switzerland uh well of course a long
21:17period in Bali as well Lok to be specific um uh and also like before the change of years uh like right before Christmas this year I worked from Portugal for three months and I'm actually moving there coming year as well oh sorry this year we're already in 20 25 um because as I said right before we start started recording this podcast is that um although Indonesia is amazing and people are the kindest I've ever met during traveling um especially last time I started feeling that you know my parents are getting a bit older time with them is not limit uh unlimited and I yeah that feeling started creeping up and I don't want to have any regrets of having missed too much time with them so I started looking for a location where I have all the benefits of living uh in Indonesia but not the 17 hour flight in between the, 1500 Euros every uh round trip and a seven hour uh jet lag that you have to uh deal with every single time you move so I really found that in Portugal so you got the sun you got the surfing a lot of XS as well and it's only a two and a half hour flight away and it's a minus one time difference so that's peanuts yeah perfect where in uh where in Portugal are you looking to uh looking to get based so uh there's this one spot which is perfect and I think you've been there and Bob as well I actually met with Bob uh in I think it was in October last October we uh we had a coffee at his um
22:55his favorite place called bang gun I think you know it right like it's close to that famous hotel in Etta right right right right yeah so Etta is the place that I'm talking about like amazing Ser it's only 40 minutes away from the airport uh so yeah it's h it's it's a sweet spot yeah it's a beautiful place man I went there as well two no three years ago we went on a on a just on a vacation to to Portugal and we spent a week yeah too long man we're going I'm going back in in may as well because we're organizing a Meetup for the PPC Hub and um if you're if you're I don't know if you're are going to be there or in in Bali in May in May probably still in Indonesia yeah so yeah but I only miss out just like because I'm flying back on the fourth of June so that's bummer but we'll be back man we'll be back yeah exactly because you're also going to South Africa and to Denmark right when are those trips uh yeah Denmark is going to be September um was going to be organizing something but it is still a little bit like undisclosed um we only mentioned it in the PPC Hub a bit and then Cape Town is going to be November uh because yeah just like you I I love the the traveling lifestyle and talking to you now it's like I'm getting that feeling again because I'm I'm in the Netherlands now I'm home because my girlfriend is uh due to get our first daughter in uh in three weeks or so so yeah I have to be yeah I have to be home right now um but if that wasn't then now with this weather and everything like I would have been gone
24:32already would have gone back to Cape Town or to Portugal or Spain or maybe somewhere else warm um so talking to you now you share all those memories it's like exactly the same for me I also started what also ignited my fire was the four-hour Work Week exactly the same uh how that was for you so we have very similar um yeah similar things that we enjoy in life and um yeah later on in the year we're going um back to Cape Town because friends of ours that we met over there um we went to Cape Town twice last year and the year before for three and a half months or so uh working from there and the friends that we met there are going to get married so uh yeah I thought hey let's also organize something for the BBC community so we're going to be hosting a meet up there which is probably going to be the most amazing location ever because there's so many beautiful spots there so uh yeah November if you if you're if you're around come come hang out man for sure man yeah yeah there's a reason why year after year it's it's selected as the the most beautiful city in the world it's just insane yeah it's crazy man like the the the nature I don't know if you're a big nature guy probably since you L surfing and everything yeah hiking hiking is next level there so that's uh probably my favorite SP uh place to to go to and work from also because the time difference is 1 hour so it's uh it's on the other side of the world which I love I love I just love going far um but then same time zone no jet lag uh you can just work the same Rhythm which is is is super nice um so yeah yeah the only thing I um of course
26:12like uh I compare it mostly to to Indonesia and the thing yeah when you're traveling sometimes you um you realize uh how to say this right like you I was the training again um for example air quality here in Indonesia like normally back back home in Holland you're like ah you know like you're you're not even aware or grateful for it but when you're in Indonesia and you're driving be behind this truck with a rusty exhaust and blue smoke in your in your face uh all that stuff like that really makes you aware of um um yeah that you're actually really grateful for the fact that we have clean air in in Holland and I had something similar in South Africa AF when it was there earlier this year around August which is winter over there um the first yeah that was actually the first time that I felt like safety is not something that is that you should take for granted because of course in Holland you don't even think about it and also here in Indonesia you don't think about it but here uh being in South Africa was actually the first time that I was like oh okay so this is something to take um um to take into account because for example when the sun sets they uh they always say like travel with a with a cap uh don't uh avoid these neighborhoods at all cost and when we rented the car they said okay avoid these uh these roads because people will just walk over the road and step in front of your car so that was actually the first time I was like okay don't take sa Safety and Security for granted yeah absolutely man and that's also why
27:52I think traveling is such an enriching experience because you get to see those those different things as you mentioned I I was also I did my study abroad in South Korea and um yeah air quality there is also not not guaranteed to be always as good because a lot of the smoke from China actually uh blows over to South Korea so uh I was that was the first time that I saw um a weather forecast that they also had like a smog forecast I was like what the they even have a smog forecast yeah and in China it was always even worse because the the factories were there and everything was pushing to to South Korea um so then again yeah you you you um notice things that you have taken totally for granted in your own country um but you take that experience back with you and I think for Cape Town for South Africa it's definitely like yeah it's super beautiful naturewise but I think um um historically a lot of the issues that were there are still not solved and you see that in in the society you see that in the in in the poverty and that's definitely the dark side of it uh or not the dark side but the downside of it um and it is also something that you that that makes you more aware of what's going on in the world and for all the little things that we always complain about you know especially as Dutch Dutch people can always complain about the little things about the weather and and whatever um but as you said like yeah we take all those things for granted because it's safe uh we have good health care our children can go to school for free you know so um yeah I think traveling just gives you those New Perspectives especially if you go to different parts
29:29with different cultures yeah for sure man like uh I've never ever thought when I was in Holland and I haven't hadn't travel yet I've never ever thought about air quality right like how often are you aware of the the the quality of the air or feeling safe without even thinking about it or drinking from the from the tab it's it's all so in our automatic system and all of a sudden when you travel you're like Yep this uh stuff that you didn't take for granted is imposs here and this and this and this and I was like okay and yeah this that makes you a bit more aware and also for example one of the other things is uh um uh animal animal health like in when you travel to a country that is less developed Animal Health is not a thing that they they care about they have more important stuff to fix first before you uh think about uh all that other stuff right yeah fair enough if you have to think about your your own safety or feeding your children then uh then those things come come later it makes it makes a ton of sense um exactly and uh in in this uh lifestyle where you're you know traveling and working remotely are there also CH are there also challenges that you're that you're facing uh yeah for sure yeah um of course at first s it looks amazing and it feels like you have zero compromises um but of course at some point that's what I noticed and not everybody will notice because not everybody as long is as long from home as I am uh but starting to miss your friends and family of course you make new friends along the road and you meet amazing people and people motivate you and all that stuff you build connections
31:08but of course like your your true Inner Circle is still in Holland and that is one of the most difficult things because I do not really see myself living in Holland anymore but all the people I care about the most are living there so that is also one of the reasons why I really started to look for something that has all the benefits of Indonesia uh but closer to home so it was such a great feeling to u to me that when I went to Portugal uh in September October November last year uh both my mom and my dad came over to visit and I was like this is exactly the reason why I want uh to stay a bit closer to to Holland because then stuff like this can happen and I can also just fly back to Holland and I would basically see my parents as much as my my siblings do we we all live in Amsterdam uh in the same country right um and would see the still them as much as as they uh as they would so I'm really trying to find a switch spot but that is one of the biggest challenge definitely yeah so for uh how old are you now 31 yeah me too um let's say uh for people who are uh 22 23 working in Google Ads maybe also same background as you worked at agency and they thinking a I might want to give this traveling lifestyle and working remotely want to give it a shot um what tips or recommendations do you have to for these people definitely do it for sure that's uh for starters um but one of the most important things that you should uh uh should do in the beginning just keep it short stay close to uh to uh um to yeah
32:48to Holland U or wherever you're working from but uh because it doesn't have to be far away it doesn't have to be long all the best benefits of working remotely can already be experienced when you're just I don't know for from Amsterdam to Berlin for example or to Barcelona like like the the the feeling of freedom and uh working remotely in all the benefit benefits it offers can already be experienced when you're uh staying close to home and see how it works uh if you like it does it does it actually work for you can you find a routine that keeps you uh productive uh does it give you more energy all that stuff like really reflect on how this first STP goes for you and then uh try a bit further if um if all those things are a check nice yeah I would probably probably say the same just do it and and experience it um there's a such a magical feeling at least for me like when you go to the airport and then you go through the gates um or through security check and then everything is done and you're like okay let's go and you walk to the yeah you walk to the gate and then you're going on this adventure I always going by myself now now I'm also going with my my girlfriend when we're traveling go together which is also phenomenal um but there's also something special about going by yourself and I remember uh I did my study abroad in South Korea uh in 20 jeez 15 10 years ago oh my God W Jesus yeah and before that I went to the US um and it's just so special like going through that by yourself and not knowing where you're going to where
34:25you're going to end up and knowing that you're going to get these culture shocks um but I think in the end it's all so worth it because it all enriches yeah you as a as a person you take so much take so much from that um yeah totally agree on that yeah for sure it's um I've traveled with friends and I've traveled by myself and traveling by yourself is special uh still every single time I go to Indonesia so it's always for a long period and this is the fourth time I'm going to Indonesia or I am in Indonesia and it's always after the boarding when you've all the when all the stress be sorry after the the Customs you the only thing you have to do is go is go Bard in time right like just don't miss your flight that's all like all the stress already done and that's really the moment when it kicks in for me like it's a very weird mix of feelings because you're on the one side you're excited about the future about the yeah the challenge ahe the the the new chapter uh but on the other side you also feel some sort of a loneliness because you you're you're going to miss your family and your friends again so it's a very special feeling and uh yeah it's um it's something you only experience when you travel by yourself yeah absolutely man um I think that this also something that you can only experience when you when you when you do that traveling because as you said it's all so close to each other like you're super excited to go but then at the same time you're you can also cry because you know like oh I'm not going to see my parents for maybe like six months or so it's uh crazy how close that is to each other um has a and and here's actually maybe a slightly different question but has traveling
36:03influenced your perspective on marketing or or Google Ads in any way uh um not not that much actually it's uh no not that much actually is that something that you experienced um I don't know I'm just asking the questions no I don't know I could have thought about that for myself actually I don't know um maybe it makes you more sensitive to cultural uh differences which you can then use in your in your marketing um I don't know actually if that is I know it has helped me in the PPC Hub so maybe not per se like as a Google specialist but as as the yeah for the the community that we have built um I've studied International Communication at the the hanza University of applied sciences in Hoda and um there was one class and it was Intercultural competence and it was all about different cultures and how do uh people from different cultures work together and and what is their style of communicating Etc and uh I just remember like there was um different theories um on for example why people from the Netherlands are much more direct than for example people from Italy or Spain are much more indirect it's called high context versus low context and I was in a group actually with my girlfriend at the time we weren't together yet and
37:41somewhere from Italy somewhere from uh Spain and we were always like super direct uh say okay we got to do this got to do that tomorrow that's finished okay and then the Italian and the Spaniard were always like yeah yeah sure tomorrow is f going to be finished and then tomorrow we're at school and then they didn't you know didn't complete the assignment but then we you know through those experiences you learn that people from different cultures have different ways of communicating uh maybe some people are more shy than others um and it has taught me that there are different ways to approach different types of people so now in the PPC Hub for example if I have someone from if I'm talking to someone from India or someone from Indonesia um I tend to speak differently to them than if it's a Dutch person because as dutches you know you know how it is we're like super direct even though if you have a a personality in the Netherlands where you feel like you're not direct if you're talking to someone from Indonesia for example you're still super direct yeah yeah yeah for sure and definely agree it's it's not something that um uh specifically for digital marketing but definitely uh in in in doing business in general the the differences in uh how other people communicate and how they behave because it's not the just Indonesians that you're dealing with here in Indonesia especially in Bali like it's people from all over the world like Americans uh this is basically a gather point for all nationalities in the world like German um Asian other Asian countries America Australia they're like the Dutch people of this of of the West oh sorry of the East true so yeah definitely uh that's
39:22definitely true what you're saying uh so yeah I haven't really noticed specifically for advertising but definitely in a general context for sure yeah um all right man let's um let's finish up let's round up here because um I think that was that was an awesome awesome conversation it's definitely Rel Light My Fire um yeah I gotta set it out for a couple of weeks then get the baby here and then hopefully in a couple of months uh which I'm super excited about by the way it's not like a dreading that or anything yeah so when is she go then uh m February so three more weeks so so around the corner damn yeah yeah almost almost are you mentally prepared for uh everything that's coming um probably not probably not yeah even if you think you are you're not yeah exactly and and I know I know for a fact that there you can only do so much to prepare so we did we did everything like my girlfriend she loves everything there is around you know birthing and and being pregnant and she knows all all the RIS about it so she I learned a lot through her as well um and we did we did the the yeah birthing course Etc um but I think yeah once the baby is here then you got to figure it out at that time you know especially after the initial people who help you out are gone then you're just at home together with the baby like now what do I do yeah there's no way I think I think you can't really prepare for that and what I'm most excited about is just seeing how our routines are going to change like daily routines and how we can fit having a baby inside of those routines and then
41:00once she is uh a little bit older we can start traveling again which I'm also super excited about because that's going to be I think that's going to be super special man going to new places to the old places with the with the Next Generation the whole baby uh Adventure is going to be very similar to Google Ads like of course you can follow going back to the nerd St but of course you can follow Google's uh uh Google s certificate program and know learn all there is follow the entire course but you're only going to learn it while doing it hey true man that's a that's a proper proper life lesson man perfect it's it's true it's true all right cool um all right so one closing question Den um if you had to give PPC experts one tip that could improve their careers what what would that be uh it's a cliche one it's a cliche one but never stop learning it's uh person personally I really started reading during Corona That's when uh this new hobby came to life and one of the books that I read was uh the 4-Hour Work week it's on the table over there like a like a Bible um and from that moment on it Sparks even more curiosity about what more you can learn and that's just that became a never entering uh Circle awesome so yeah never never stop learning guys all right well you heard it you heard the man the KN uh where can people follow you by the way uh that would be just LinkedIn LinkedIn cool keep an eye on on what he's doing he's building a lot of cool stuff and he's sharing golden nuggets every single day video a lot of video and text based posts so um yeah
